unknown	1241a9da2f	The fix for BUG 21136 (ChangeSet@1.2611.1.1) introduced a regression that caused a few tests to fail because the thd->extra_lock wasn't being set to NULL after the table was unlocked. This poses a serious problem because later attempts to access thd->extra_lock (now a dangling pointer) will probably result in a crash (undefined behavior) -- and that's what actually happens in some test cases. The solution is to set the select_create::m_plock pointee to NULL, which means that thd->extra_lock is set to NULL when the lock data is not for a temporary table. sql/sql_insert.cc: Set the m_plock pointee to NULL, thus avoiding a dangling thd->extra_lock pointer in some cases.	18 years ago
unknown	6e668b4f5b	Bug#21136 CREATE TABLE SELECT within CREATE TABLE SELECT causes server crash When CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE .. SELECT is invoked from a stored function which in turn is called from CREATE TABLE SELECT causes a memory leak because the inner create temporary table overrides the outter extra_lock reference when locking the table. The solution is to simply not overrride the extra_lock by only using the extra_lock for a non-temporary table lock. mysql-test/r/create.result: Add test case result for Bug#21136 mysql-test/t/create.test: Add test case for Bug#21136 sql/sql_insert.cc: For temporary tables, store the lock data within the select_create class since tmp tables contents are not replicated. unknown	ebaa05efa7	Bug#27216: functions with parameters of different date types may return wrong type of the result. There are several functions that accept parameters of different types. The result field type of such functions was determined based on the aggregated result type of its arguments. As the DATE and the DATETIME types are represented by the STRING type, the result field type of the affected functions was always STRING for DATE/DATETIME arguments. The affected functions are COALESCE, IF, IFNULL, CASE, LEAST/GREATEST, CASE. Now the affected functions aggregate the field types of their arguments rather than their result types and return the result of aggregation as their result field type. The cached_field_type member variable is added to the number of classes to hold the aggregated result field type. The str_to_date() function's result field type now defaults to the MYSQL_TYPE_DATETIME. The agg_field_type() function is added. It aggregates field types with help of the Field::field_type_merge() function. The create_table_from_items() function now uses the item->tmp_table_field_from_field_type() function to get the proper field when the item is a function with a STRING result type. libmysql/libmysql.c: Bug#27216: functions with parameters of different date types may return wrong type of the result. The client library now accepts the NEWDATE type as a string. sql/item_cmpfunc.cc: Bug#27216: functions with parameters of different date types may return wrong type of the result. unknown	f7f1095908	Bug#30384: Having SQL_BUFFER_RESULT option in the CREATE .. KEY(..) .. SELECT led to creating corrupted index. While execution of the CREATE .. SELECT SQL_BUFFER_RESULT statement the engine->start_bulk_insert function was called twice. On the first call On the first call MyISAM disabled all non-unique indexes and on the second call it decides to not re-enable them because all indexes was disabled. Due to this no indexes was actually created during CREATE TABLE thus producing crashed table. Now the select_inset class has is_bulk_insert_mode flag which prevents calling the start_bulk_insert function twice. The flag is set in the select_create::prepare, select_insert::prepare2 functions and the select_insert class constructor. The flag is reset in the select_insert::send_eof function. mysql-test/t/insert_select.test: A test case is added for the bug#30384: Having SQL_BUFFER_RESULT option in the CREATE .. KEY(..) .. ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE on another thread even when low_priority_updates is activated. unknown	8018d6ac94	BUG#29152 - INSERT DELAYED does not use concurrent_insert on slave INSERT DELAYED on a replication slave was converted to regular INSERT, whereas it should try concurrent INSERT first. With this patch we try to convert delayed insert to concurrent insert on a replication slave. If it is impossible for some reason, we fall back to regular insert. No test case for this fix. I do not see anything indicating this is regression - we behave this way since Nov 2000. sql/sql_insert.cc: If we're executing INSERT DELAYED on a replication slave, we're upgrading lock type to TL_WRITE as we need to ensure serial execution of queries on the slave. OTOH if we're executing regular INSERT on a replication slave, we're trying TL_WRITE_CONCURRENT_INSERT first, and if we may not use it, we fall back to TL_WRITE. Fixed INSERT DELAYED on a replication slave to behave the same way as regular INSERT, that is to try TL_WRITE_CONCURRENT_INSERT first.	19 years ago

unknown	1307d3b803	(pushing for Andrei) Bug #27417 thd->no_trans_update.stmt lost value inside of SF-exec-stack Once had been set the flag might later got reset inside of a stored routine execution stack. The reason was in that there was no check if a new statement started at time of resetting. The artifact affects most of binlogable DML queries. Notice, that multi-update is wrapped up within bug@27716 fix, multi-delete bug@29136. Fixed with saving parent's statement flag of whether the statement modified non-transactional table, and unioning (merging) the value with that was gained in mysql_execute_command. Resettling thd->no_trans_update members into thd->transaction.`member`; Asserting code; Effectively the following properties are held. 1. At the end of a substatement thd->transaction.stmt.modified_non_trans_table reflects the fact if such a table got modified by the substatement. That also respects THD::really_abort_on_warnin() requirements. 2. Eventually thd->transaction.stmt.modified_non_trans_table will be computed as the union of the values of all invoked sub-statements. That fixes this bug#27417; Computing of thd->transaction.all.modified_non_trans_table is refined to base to the stmt's value for all the case including insert .. select statement which before the patch had an extra issue bug@28960. Minor issues are covered with mysql_load, mysql_delete, and binloggin of insert in to temp_table select. The supplied test verifies limitely, mostly asserts. The root cause traces to the following code: in sql_base.cc, open_table() if (table->in_use != thd) { /* wait_for_condition will unlock LOCK_open for us */ wait_for_condition(thd, &LOCK_open, &COND_refresh); } The problem with this code is that the current implementation of the LOGGER creates 'fake' THD objects, like - Log_to_csv_event_handler::general_log_thd - Log_to_csv_event_handler::slow_log_thd which are not associated to a real thread running in the server, so that waiting for these non-existing threads to release table locks cause the dead lock. In general, the design of Log_to_csv_event_handler does not fit into the general architecture of the server, so that the concept of general_log_thd and slow_log_thd has to be abandoned: - this implementation does not work with table locking - it will not work with commands like SHOW PROCESSLIST - having the log tables always opened does not integrate well with DDL operations / FLUSH TABLES / SET GLOBAL READ_ONLY With this patch, the fundamental design of the LOGGER has been changed to: - always open and close a log table when writing a log - remove totally the usage of fake THD objects - clarify how locking of log tables is implemented in general. See WL#3984 for details related to the new locking design. Additional changes (misc bugs exposed and fixed): 1) mysqldump which would ignore some tables in dump_all_tables_in_db(), but forget to ignore the same in dump_all_views_in_db(). 2) mysqldump would also issue an empty "LOCK TABLE" command when all the tables to lock are to be ignored (numrows == 0), instead of not issuing the query. 3) Internal errors handlers could intercept errors but not warnings (see sql_error.cc). 4) Implementing a nested call to open tables, for the performance schema tables, exposed an existing bug in remove_table_from_cache(), which would perform: in_use->some_tables_deleted=1; against another thread, without any consideration about thread locking. This call inside remove_table_from_cache() was not required anyway, since calling mysql_lock_abort() takes care of aborting -- cleanly -- threads that might hold a lock on a table. The patch is verified manually. Review fixes. The server that is running DELAYED inserts would deadlock itself or crash under high load if some of the delayed threads were KILLed in the meanwhile. The fix is to change internal lock acquisition order of delayed inserts subsystem and to ensure that Delayed_insert::table_list::db does not point to volatile memory in some cases. Simply put, delayed_get_table used to lock LOCK_delayed_insert and then di->mutex, and handle_delayed_insert would lock di->mutex and then LOCK_delayed_insert. Fixed by moving registration in the list of delayed insert threads from handle_delayed_insert to delayed_get_table - so that now handle_delayed_insert doesn't need to acquire LOCK_delayed_insert mutex. 2) di->table_list.db was copied by-pointer from table_list.db of the first producer -- the one who initiated creation of the delayed insert thread. This producer might be long gone when the member is needed (handle_delayed_insert:open_ltable), e.g. by having been killed with KILL CONNECTION statement. Fixed by using a pointer to the consumer's deep copy of THD::db. 3) In find_handler, we shouldn't assume that Delayed_insert object already (or still) has a table opened all the time it is present in the delayed insert list. E.g. it's not the case when Delayed_insert decided to terminate, closed the table, but haven't yet unregistered from the list (see the end of handle_delayed_insert).	19 years ago

So the only dependable way in such cases is to let the storage engine return that information if possible. Fixed the bug at server level by providing a way for the storage engine to return information about wether it actually updated the row or the old and the new column values are the same. It can do that by returning HA_ERR_RECORD_IS_THE_SAME in ha_update_row(). Due to the specific of handling INSERT, which per-row-while-loop is unbreakable to killing, the query on transactional table should have not appeared in binlog unless there was a call to a stored routine that got interrupted with killing (and then there must be an error returned out of the loop). The offered solution added the following rule for binlogging of INSERT that accounts the above specifics: For INSERT on transactional-table if the error was not set the only raised flag is harmless and is ignored via masking out on time of creation of binlog event. For both table types the combination of raised error and KILLED flag indicates that there was potentially partial execution on master and consistency is under the question. In that case the code continues to binlog an event with an appropriate killed error. The fix relies on the specified behaviour of stored routine that must propagate the error to the top level query handling if the thd->killed flag was raised in the routine execution. The patch adds an arg with the default killed-status-unset value to Query_log_event::Query_log_event. sql/log_event.cc: killed_status as the value of thd->killed can be passed as an arg to the constructor. if the value is different from the default the arg is set to the current thd->killed value. A caller might need to masquerade thd->killed with THD::NOT_KILLED. Bug#19733 "Repeated alter, or repeated create/drop, fails" Bug#22060 "ALTER TABLE x AUTO_INCREMENT=y in SP crashes server" Bug#24879 "Prepared Statements: CREATE TABLE (UTF8 KEY) produces a growing key length" (this bug is not fixed in 5.0) Re-execution of CREATE DATABASE, CREATE TABLE and ALTER TABLE statements in stored routines or as prepared statements caused incorrect results (and crashes in versions prior to 5.0.25). In 5.1 the problem occured only for CREATE DATABASE, CREATE TABLE SELECT and CREATE TABLE with INDEX/DATA DIRECTOY options). The problem of bugs 4968, 19733, 19282 and 6895 was that functions mysql_prepare_table, mysql_create_table and mysql_alter_table are not re-execution friendly: during their operation they modify contents of LEX (members create_info, alter_info, key_list, create_list), thus making the LEX unusable for the next execution. In particular, these functions removed processed columns and keys from create_list, key_list and drop_list. Search the code in sql_table.cc for drop_it.remove() and similar patterns to find evidence. The fix is to supply to these functions a usable copy of each of the above structures at every re-execution of an SQL statement. To simplify memory management, LEX::key_list and LEX::create_list were added to LEX::alter_info, a fresh copy of which is created for every execution. The problem of crashing bug 22060 stemmed from the fact that the above metnioned functions were not only modifying HA_CREATE_INFO structure in LEX, but also were changing it to point to areas in volatile memory of the execution memory root. The patch solves this problem by creating and using an on-stack copy of HA_CREATE_INFO in mysql_execute_command. Post-review fixes. Problem: In MySQL INSERT DELAYED is a way to pipe all inserts into a given table through a dedicated thread. This is necessary for simplistic storage engines like MyISAM, which do not have internal concurrency control or threading and thus can not achieve efficient INSERT throughput without support from SQL layer. DELAYED INSERT works as follows: For every distinct table, which can accept DELAYED inserts and has pending data to insert, a dedicated thread is created to write data to disk. All user connection threads that attempt to delayed-insert into this table interact with the dedicated thread in producer/consumer fashion: all records to-be inserted are pushed into a queue of the dedicated thread, which fetches the records and writes them. In this design, client connection threads never open or lock the delayed insert table. This functionality was introduced in version 3.23 and does not take into account existence of triggers, views, or pre-locking. E.g. if INSERT DELAYED is called from a stored function, which, in turn, is called from another stored function that uses the delayed table, a deadlock can occur, because delayed locking by-passes pre-locking. Besides: * the delayed thread works directly with the subject table through the storage engine API and does not invoke triggers * even if it was patched to invoke triggers, if triggers, in turn, used other tables, the delayed thread would have to open and lock involved tables (use pre-locking). * even if it was patched to use pre-locking, without deadlock detection the delayed thread could easily lock out user connection threads in case when the same table is used both in a trigger and on the right side of the insert query: the delayed thread would not release locks until all inserts are complete, and user connection can not complete inserts without having locks on the tables used on the right side of the query. Solution: These considerations suggest two general alternatives for the future of INSERT DELAYED: * it is considered a full-fledged alternative to normal INSERT * it is regarded as an optimisation that is only relevant for simplistic engines. Since we missed our chance to provide complete support of new features when 5.0 was in development, the first alternative currently renders infeasible. However, even the second alternative, which is to detect new features and convert DELAYED insert into a normal insert, is not easy to implement. The catch-22 is that we don't know if the subject table has triggers or is a view before we open it, and we only open it in the delayed thread. We don't know if the query involves pre-locking until we have opened all tables, and we always first create the delayed thread, and only then open the remaining tables. SELECT in case when a temporary table with same name was already present led to the insertion of data into this temporary table and creation of empty non-temporary table. All above problems stemmed from the old implementation of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT in which we created, opened and locked target table without any special protection in a separate step and not with the rest of tables used by this statement. This underminded deadlock-avoidance approach used in server and created window for races. It also excluded target table from prelocking causing problems with trigger execution. The patch solves these problems by implementing new approach to handling of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT for base tables. We try to open and lock table to be created at the same time as the rest of tables used by this statement. If such table does not exist at this moment we create and place in the table cache special placeholder for it which prevents its creation or any other usage by other threads. We still use old approach for creation of temporary tables. SELECT when temporary table exists" Deadlock occured when one tried to execute CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ... SELECT statement under LOCK TABLES which held read lock on target table. Attempt to execute the same statement for already existing target table with triggers caused server crashes. Also concurrent execution of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT statement and other statements involving target table suffered from various races (some of which might've led to deadlocks). Finally, attempt to execute CREATE TABLE ... SELECT in case when a temporary table with same name was already present led to the insertion of data into this temporary table and creation of empty non-temporary table. All above problems stemmed from the old implementation of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT in which we created, opened and locked target table without any special protection in a separate step and not with the rest of tables used by this statement. This underminded deadlock-avoidance approach used in server and created window for races. It also excluded target table from prelocking causing problems with trigger execution. The patch solves these problems by implementing new approach to handling of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT for base tables. We try to open and lock table to be created at the same time as the rest of tables used by this statement. If such table does not exist at this moment we create and place in the table cache special placeholder for it which prevents its creation or any other usage by other threads. We still use old approach for creation of temporary tables. Also note that we decided to postpone introduction of some tests for concurrent behaviour of CREATE TABLE ... SELECT till 5.1. The main reason for this is absence in 5.0 ability to set @@debug variable at runtime, which can be circumvented only by using several test files with individual .opt files. ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE statements, when SELECT returns duplicated values and UPDATE clause tries to assign NULL values to NOT NULL fields. NOTE: By current design MySQL server treats INSERT IGNORE ... ON DUPLICATE statements as INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE with update of duplicated records, but MySQL manual lacks this information. After this fix such behaviour becomes legalized. The write_record() function was returning error values even within INSERT IGNORE, because ignore_errors parameter of the fill_record_n_invoke_before_triggers() function call was always set to FALSE. This because Rows_log_event::do_update_pos() is always executed (unless Rows_log_event::do_apply_event() failed with an error, in which case the slave stops with an error anyway). Adding test case. Fixing logic to detect if inside a group. If a rotate event occured when an initial prefix of events for a statement, but for which the table did contain a key, last_event_start_time is set to zero, causing rotate to end the group but without unlocking any tables. This left a lock hanging around, which subsequently triggered an assertion when a second attempt was made to lock the same sequence of tables. In order to solve the above problem, a new flag was added to the relay log info structure that is used to indicate that the replication thread is currently executing a statement. Using this flag, the replication thread is in a group if it is either in a statement or inside a trans- action. unknown	2efc0f51cf	Bug #26242 UPDATE with subquery and triggers failing with cluster tables In certain cases AFTER UPDATE/DELETE triggers on NDB tables that referenced subject table didn't see the results of operation which caused invocation of those triggers. In other words AFTER trigger invoked as result of update (or deletion) of particular row saw version of this row before update (or deletion). The problem occured because NDB handler in those cases postponed actual update/delete operations to be able to perform them later as one batch. This fix solves the problem by disabling this optimization for particular operation if subject table has AFTER trigger for this operation defined. To achieve this we introduce two new flags for handler::extra() method: HA_EXTRA_DELETE_CANNOT_BATCH and HA_EXTRA_UPDATE_CANNOT_BATCH. These are called if there exists AFTER DELETE/UPDATE triggers during a statement that potentially can generate calls to delete_row()/update_row().
