Joerg Bruehe	9ff932336e	Our autoconf function "MYSQL_STACK_DIRECTION" will not work correctly if the compiler optimizes too clever. This has happaned on HP-UX 11.23 (IA64) at optimization level "+O2", causing bug#42213: Check for "stack overrun" doesn't work, server crashes Fix it by adding a pragma that prevents this optimization. As a result, it should be safe to use "+O2" on this platform (unless there is some other, optimizer-related, bug which is just currently masked because we use resudec optimization). config/ac-macros/misc.m4: Our autoconf function "MYSQL_STACK_DIRECTION" is meant to determine whether the stack grows towards higher or towards lower addresses. It does this by comparing the addresses of a variable (which is local to a recursive function) on different nesting levels. This approach requires that the function is really implemented as a recursive function, with each nested call allocating a new stack frame containing the local variable. If, however, the compiler is optimizing so clever that the recursive function is implemented by a loop, then this test will not produce correct results. This has happened on HP-UX 11.23 (IA64) when HP's compiler was called with optimization "+O2" (not with "+O1"), reported as bug#42213. Rather than starting a race with the compiler and making the function so complicated that this optimization does not happen, the idea is to prevent the optimization by adding a pragma. For HP, this is "#pragma noinline". If we encounter other compilers which also optimize too clever, we may add their pragmas here. It is a debatable issue whether such pragmas should be guarded by conditional compiling or not, the reviewers voted to do it. It seems HP has different compilers, "ANSI C" and "aCC", on the affected platform "__HP_cc" ("ANSI C") is predefined. To be on the safe side, the pragma will also take effect if HP's "aCC" compiler is used, or any other compiler on HP-UX.	16 years ago
Georgi Kodinov	60beb4c3da	Bug #43614 : make distcheck failure (ndb/Makefile is made, but not subdirs of ndb) There are some recursive targets that automake generates which reference DIST_SUBDIRS. It's critical, then, for such subdirs to exist even if they won't be built as part of SUBDIRS. During a VPATH build, it is the configure script which creates the subdirs (when it processes the AC_CONFIG_FILES() for each subdir's Makefile). If autoconf doesn't create a subdir's Makefile, then the recursive make will fail when it is unable to cd into that subdir. This isn't a problem in non-VPATH builds, because the subdirs are all present in the source tarball. So the problem only shows up during 'make distcheck', which does a VPATH build. The fix is to look, when configure is being created by autoconf, for any plugin subdirectories. These are the dynamic subdirectories which need to be handled specially. It's enough to tell autoconf to generate a Makefile for any Makefile.am found in the plugin directory - all plugin subdirectories using automake (i.e., listed in the plugin's DIST_SUBDIRS) will have a Makefile.am. This is done by calling 'find'. This means that 'find' must be in the PATH on the host that is running autoconf. 'find' is NOT needed when calling configure, so it is not an additional dependency for the user. Finally, ha_ndbcluster.m4 had called AC_CONFIG_FILES() on all those subdir Makefiles, but only when the plugin was actually being built. So it didn't work in the case that NDB was not being built. All of those Makefiles have to be removed from this static list, since the plugin machinery is now adding them automatically. autoconf fails if a file is duplicated in AC_CONFIG_FILES().	17 years ago

Timothy Smith	338aefcb38	Add the IBM DB2 for i storage engine. Modify plugins.m4 configuration framework so that plugins which are not built still get added to the source distribution during make dist. This came up now because we can only build ibmdb2i on i5/OS, and we can't bootstrap our source dist on that platform. The solution is to specify DIST_SUBDIRS containing all plugins, separate from SUBDIRS which contains the plugins which are actually built. This ibmdb2i code is from the ibmdb2i-ga3-src.zip file, with a patch to plug.in to disable the plugin if the PASE environment isn't available.	17 years ago

This resulted in Max_data_length being truncated to 2 GB by MyISAM code. Solution: Reverted large-file changes from the fix for bug10776. We need to define _LARGE_FILES on AIX to have support for files > 2 GB. Since _LARGE_FILE_API is incompatible with _LARGE_FILES and may be automatically defined by including standards.h, we also need a workaround to avoid this conflict. config/ac-macros/large_file.m4: Reverted large-file changes from the fix for bug10776. We need to define _LARGE_FILES on AIX to have support for files > 2 GB. include/my_global.h: _LARGE_FILE_API is defined in standards.h that is automatically included by at least some C++ compilers on AIX. Since it is also incompatible with _LARGE_FILES which is required for POSIX IO calls to be largefile-safe, the only workaround is to explicitely #undef _LARGE_FILE_API.	18 years ago

unknown	dacab8d91c	Fix bug#27520. For some unknown reason, libtool.m4 attempts to find "ar" but if it cannot be found sets AR=false. This leads to confusing failures during the build rather than at configure time. We have our own checks for ar, but as AR was already set earlier by the libtool tests they were never exectuted. Therefore, update the tests so that we catch any libtool failures, and run AC_CHECK_PROG explicitly to ensure that we see sensible output from configure prior to any potential failure. config/ac-macros/misc.m4: AC_CHECK_PROG does nothing if the first argument (variable) is already set, so remove redundant check for the empty string. This also ensures that a 'checking for ar' message is printed prior to any failure, which is far less confusing.	18 years ago

Made the include path for "libedit" pick up its own "config.h" first. config/ac-macros/misc.m4: aclocal in automake 1.8 can't handle AC_REQUIRE on a user macro defined in the same included file. cmd-line-utils/libedit/Makefile.am: Changed include path so that current directory is taken first, as there is a "config.h" there with the same name as the one in top "include". configure.in: Generate "config.h" directly into "include", don't pollute top directory include/Makefile.am: Copy "config.h" from current directory to "my_config.h", added note in the make file why there are two identical files with different name. scripts/make_binary_distribution.sh: Removed copy of "config.h" from top directory, it is in "include" in a source tree.	18 years ago
unknown	9eaf0ae73e	Bug #25061 Build failure on HP/UX similar to BUG#20507 Added libCsup as a mysql library dependency on hpux11. This means any projects statically linking to our libraries using the HPUX11 compiler will need to add the -lCSup option to their build link options. If they use the mysql_config tool this will happen automatically. Projects that dynamically link to libmysqlclient will continue to work without any modifications. Library libCsup is a C++ runtime library needed for yassl support when built with the hpux11 C/C++ compiler. The first attempts to fix this bug were to remove the yassl dependencies on libCsup. We tried removing all pure virtual functions and other hacks, but the dependency remained. The only other options left involve extensive restructuring of the yassl library. config/ac-macros/yassl.m4: Added libCsup as a mysql library dependency on hpux11 when building yassl.	18 years ago

Storage engines and plugins can now have unit tests to test their components; such test must be an executable C/C++ program which name ends with '-t' and which is obeys the mytap protocol, it must be stored in the storage engine's or plugin's source directory (storage/<engine> or plugin/<plugin>) or any subdirectories of this. The top-level Makefile target "test-unit" will run all unit tests: it will scan the engines' and plugins' directories, recursively, and execute all executable files which name ends with '-t'." Makefile.am: "unittest" directory must be built before "storage" and "plugin" because the unit tests in these directories may need libmytap.a which is in unittest/mytap. config/ac-macros/plugins.m4: When enabling engine "X", we add "../storage/X" to the unit tests directories which unittest/unit.pl should traverse looking for tests to execute.
