Jon Olav Hauglid	a19377e0d7	Bug #50821 Deadlock between LOCK TABLES and ALTER TABLE This was a deadlock between ALTER TABLE and another DML statement (or LOCK TABLES ... READ). ALTER TABLE would wait trying to upgrade its lock to MDL_EXCLUSIVE and the DML statement would wait trying to acquire a TL_READ_NO_INSERT table level lock. This could happen if one connection first acquired a MDL_SHARED_READ lock on a table. In another connection ALTER TABLE is then started. ALTER TABLE eventually blocks trying to upgrade to MDL_EXCLUSIVE, but while holding a TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ table level lock. If the first connection then tries to acquire TL_READ_NO_INSERT, it will block and we have a deadlock since neither connection can proceed. This patch fixes the problem by allowing TL_READ_NO_INSERT locks to be granted if another connection holds TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ on the same table. This will allow the DML statement to proceed such that it eventually can release its MDL lock which in turn makes ALTER TABLE able to proceed. Note that TL_READ_NO_INSERT was already partially compatible with TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ as the latter would be granted if the former lock was held. This patch just makes the opposite true as well. Also note that since ALTER TABLE takes an upgradable MDL lock, there will be no starvation of ALTER TABLE statements by statements acquiring TL_READ or TL_READ_NO_INSERT. Luis Soares	55aab082a9	BUG#50364: FLUSH LOGS crashes the server (rpl.rpl_heartbeat_basic fails in PB sporadically) The IO thread can concurrently access the relay log IO_CACHE while another thread is performing an FLUSH LOGS procedure. FLUSH LOGS closes and reopens the relay log and while doing so it (re)initializes its IO_CACHE. During this procedure the IO_CACHE mutex is also reinitialized, which can cause problems if some other thread (namely the IO THREAD) is concurrently accessing it at the time . This patch fixes the problem by extending the interface of the flush_master_info function to also include a second paramater, "need_relay_log_lock", stating whether the thread should grab the relay log lock or not before actually flushing the relay log. Also, IO thread now calls flush_master_info with this flag set when it flushes master info with in the event read_event loop. Finally, we also increase loop time in rpl_heartbeat_basic test case, so that the number of calls to flush logs doubles, stressing this part of the code a little more. mysql-test/suite/rpl/t/rpl_heartbeat_basic.test: Doubled the number of iterations on the FLUSH LOGS loop by doubling the time available to perform all iterations. sql/repl_failsafe.cc: Updating flush_master_info call so that it uses two parameters instead of one. sql/rpl_mi.cc: Updating flush_master_info call so that it uses two parameters instead of one. sql/rpl_mi.h: Changed flush_master_info interface. Now takes a second parameter instead of just one. The second parameter is: need_lock_relay_log. sql/rpl_rli.cc: Small fix in comment. sql/slave.cc: Updating flush_master_info call so that it uses two parameters instead of one. sql/sql_repl.cc: Updating flush_master_info call so that it uses two parameters instead of one.	16 years ago

Jon Olav Hauglid	b417300c9a	Bug #50786 Assertion `thd->mdl_context.trans_sentinel() == __null' failed in open_ltable() The problem was too restrictive asserts that enforced that open_ltable() was called without any active HANDLERs, LOCK TABLES or global read locks. However, this can happen in several cases when opening system tables. The assert would, for example, be triggered when drop function was called from a connection with active HANDLERs as this would cause open_ltable() to be called for mysql.proc. The assert could also be triggered when using table-based general log (mysql.general_log). This patch removes the asserts since they will be triggered in several legitimate cases and because the asserts are no longer relevant due to changes in how locks are released. The patch also fixes set_needs_thr_lock_abort() that before ignored its parameter and always set the member variable to TRUE. Test case added to mdl_sync.test. Thanks to Dmitry Lenev for help with this bug!	16 years ago

In sys_vars tests suite, whenever we use LOCK TABLE WRITE, adjust to lock the subject table indirecty via a view, to ensure that there the desired lock conflict in thr_lock.c is still taking place. If locked directly in LOCK TABLES list, thr_lock.c does not get involved. Adjust the thread wait state names in information_schema.processlist.	16 years ago
unknown	6a402e7c7a	Bug #50414 valgrind warnings: invalid file descriptor -1 in syscall write()/read() Sometimes stop/restart master or stop/restart salve can cause network error, which can cause the 'invalid file descriptor -1 in syscall write()/read()' warnings. All involved test cases except rpl_slave_load_remove_tmpfile belong to the kind of network error. So they are expected. The 'rpl_slave_load_remove_tmpfile' belongs to file error, but it is testing the file error as following code: DBUG_EXECUTE_IF("remove_slave_load_file_before_write", my_close(fd,MYF(0)); fd= -1; my_delete(fname, MYF(0));); So it's expected too. To fix the problem, add the valgrind warnings to the global suppression list to suppress it. mysql-test/include/mtr_warnings.sql: Added code to suppress valgrind warnings: invalid file descriptor -1 in syscall write()/read().	16 years ago
Dmitry Lenev	ed91202ac9	Fix for bug #50784 "MDL: Assertion `m_tickets.is_empty() \|\| m_tickets.front() == m_trans_sentinel'". Debug build of server crashed due to assert failure in MDL subsystem when one tried to execute multi-table REPAIR or OPTIMIZE in autocommit=0 mode. The assert failure occured when multi-table REPAIR or OPTIMIZE started processing of second table from its table list and tried to acquire upgradable metadata lock on this table. The cause of the assert failure were MDL locks left over from processing of previous table. It turned out that in autocommit=0 mode close_thread_tables() which happens at the end of table processing doesn't release metadata locks. This fix solves problem by releasing locks explicitly using MDL_context::release_trans_locks() call. mysql-test/r/repair.result: Added test for bug #50784 "MDL: Assertion `m_tickets.is_empty() \|\| m_tickets.front() == m_trans_sentinel'". mysql-test/t/repair.test: Added test for bug #50784 "MDL: Assertion `m_tickets.is_empty() \|\| m_tickets.front() == m_trans_sentinel'". sql/sql_table.cc: Ensure that metadata locks are released after multi-table REPAIR/ OPTIMIZE/... processes each table. close_thread_tables() which is called after processing each table doesn't release metadata locks if we are in autocommit=0 mode. So this have to be done explicitly by calling MDL_context::release_trans_locks().	16 years ago
Georgi Kodinov	e4b7138561	Bug #49445 : Assertion failed: 0, file .\item_row.cc, line 55 with fulltext search and row op. The search for fulltext indexes is searching for some special predicate layouts. While doing so it's not checking for the number of columns of the expressions it tries to calculate. And since row expressions can't return a single scalar value there was a crash. Fixed by checking if the expressions are scalar (in addition to being constant) before calling Item::val_xxx() methods.	16 years ago
Luis Soares	56b911f893	BUG#47639: The rpl_binlog_corruption test fails on Windows The test case rpl_binlog_corruption fails on windows because when adding a line to the binary log index file it gets terminated with a CR+LF (which btw, is the normal case in windows, but not on Unixes - LF). This causes mismatch between the relay log names, causing mysqld to report that it cannot find the log file. We fix this by creating the instrumented index file through mysql, ie, using SELECT ... INTO DUMPFILE ..., as opposed on relying on ultimatly OS commands like: -- echo "..." > index. These changes go into the file and make the procedure platform independent: include/setup_fake_relay_log.inc Side note: when using SELECT ... INTO DUMPFILE ..., one needs to check if mysqld is running with secure_file_priv. If it is, we do it in two steps: 1. create the file on the allowed location; 2. move it to the datadir. If it is not, then we just create the file directly on the datadir (so previous step 2. is not needed).	16 years ago

This is the case for rpl_nondeterministic_functions and rpl_misc_functions test cases. rpl_stm_binlog_direct test case is not needed in version > 5.1. In a nutshell, the current code-base tries to preserve causality among the statements by writing non-transactional statements to the txn-cache which is flushed upon commit. However, modifications done to non-transactional tables on behalf of a transaction become immediately visible to other connections but may not immediately get into the binary log and therefore consistency may be broken. In general, it is impossible to automatically detect causality/dependency among statements by just analyzing the statements sent to the server. Mattias Jonsson	16c8298a85	Bug#42438: Crash ha_partition::change_table_ptr There was two problems: The first was the symptom, caused by bad error handling in ha_partition. It did not handle print_error etc. when having no partitions (when used by dummy handler). The second was the real problem that when dropping tables it reused the table type (storage engine) from when the lock was asked for, not the table type that it had when gaining the exclusive name lock. So that it tried to delete tables from wrong storage engines. Solutions for the first problem was to accept some handler calls to the partitioning handler even if it was not setup with any partitions, and also if possible fallback to use the base handler's default functions. Dmitry Lenev	eba5d30e67	Implement new type-of-operation-aware metadata locks. Add a wait-for graph based deadlock detector to the MDL subsystem. Fixes bug #46272 "MySQL 5.4.4, new MDL: unnecessary deadlock" and bug #37346 "innodb does not detect deadlock between update and alter table". The first bug manifested itself as an unwarranted abort of a transaction with ER_LOCK_DEADLOCK error by a concurrent ALTER statement, when this transaction tried to repeat use of a table, which it has already used in a similar fashion before ALTER started. The second bug showed up as a deadlock between table-level locks and InnoDB row locks, which was "detected" only after innodb_lock_wait_timeout timeout. A transaction would start using the table and modify a few rows. Then ALTER TABLE would come in, and start copying rows into a temporary table. Eventually it would stumble on the modified records and get blocked on a row lock. The first transaction would try to do more updates, and get blocked on thr_lock.c lock. This situation of circular wait would only get resolved by a timeout. Both these bugs stemmed from inadequate solutions to the problem of deadlocks occurring between different locking subsystems. In the first case we tried to avoid deadlocks between metadata locking and table-level locking subsystems, when upgrading shared metadata lock to exclusive one. Transactions holding the shared lock on the table and waiting for some table-level lock used to be aborted too aggressively. We also allowed ALTER TABLE to start in presence of transactions that modify the subject table. ALTER TABLE acquires TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ lock at start, and that block all writes against the table (naturally, we don't want any writes to be lost when switching the old and the new table). TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ lock, in turn, would block the started transaction on thr_lock.c lock, should they do more updates. This, again, lead to the need to abort such transactions. The second bug occurred simply because we didn't have any mechanism to detect deadlocks between the table-level locks in thr_lock.c and row-level locks in InnoDB, other than innodb_lock_wait_timeout. This patch solves both these problems by moving lock conflicts which are causing these deadlocks into the metadata locking subsystem, thus making it possible to avoid or detect such deadlocks inside MDL. To do this we introduce new type-of-operation-aware metadata locks, which allow MDL subsystem to know not only the fact that transaction has used or is going to use some object but also what kind of operation it has carried out or going to carry out on the object. This, along with the addition of a special kind of upgradable metadata lock, allows ALTER TABLE to wait until all transactions which has updated the table to go away. This solves the second issue. Another special type of upgradable metadata lock is acquired by LOCK TABLE WRITE. This second lock type allows to solve the first issue, since abortion of table-level locks in event of DDL under LOCK TABLES becomes also unnecessary. Below follows the list of incompatible changes introduced by this patch: - From now on, ALTER TABLE and CREATE/DROP TRIGGER SQL (i.e. those statements that acquire TL_WRITE_ALLOW_READ lock) wait for all transactions which has updated the table to complete. - From now on, LOCK TABLES ... WRITE, REPAIR/OPTIMIZE TABLE (i.e. all statements which acquire TL_WRITE table-level lock) wait for all transaction which updated or read from the table to complete. As a consequence, innodb_table_locks=0 option no longer applies to LOCK TABLES ... WRITE. - DROP DATABASE, DROP TABLE, RENAME TABLE no longer abort statements or transactions which use tables being dropped or renamed, and instead wait for these transactions to complete. - Since LOCK TABLES WRITE now takes a special metadata lock, not compatible with with reads or writes against the subject table and transaction-wide, thr_lock.c deadlock avoidance algorithm that used to ensure absence of deadlocks between LOCK TABLES WRITE and other statements is no longer sufficient, even for MyISAM. The wait-for graph based deadlock detector of MDL subsystem may sometimes be necessary and is involved. This may lead to ER_LOCK_DEADLOCK error produced for multi-statement transactions even if these only use MyISAM: session 1: session 2: begin; update t1 ... lock table t2 write, t1 write; -- gets a lock on t2, blocks on t1 update t2 ... (ER_LOCK_DEADLOCK) - Finally, support of LOW_PRIORITY option for LOCK TABLES ... WRITE was abandoned. LOCK TABLE ... LOW_PRIORITY WRITE from now on has the same priority as the usual LOCK TABLE ... WRITE. SELECT HIGH PRIORITY no longer trumps LOCK TABLE ... WRITE in the wait queue. - We do not take upgradable metadata locks on implicitly locked tables. So if one has, say, a view v1 that uses table t1, and issues: LOCK TABLE v1 WRITE; FLUSH TABLE t1; -- (or just 'FLUSH TABLES'), an error is produced. unknown	a1bfae20cb	BUG#50157 Assertion !active_tranxs_->is_tranx_end_pos(..) in ReplSemiSyncMaster::commitTrx The root cause of the crash is that a TranxNode is freed before it is used. A TranxNode is allocated and inserted into the active list each time a log event is written and flushed into the binlog file. The memory for TranxNode is allocated with thd_alloc and will be freed at the end of the statement. The after_commit/after_rollback callback was supposed to be called before the end of each statement and remove the node from the active list. However this assumption is not correct in all cases(e.g. call 'CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE myisam_t SELECT * FROM innodb_t' in a transaction and delete all temporary tables automatically when a session closed), and can cause the memory allocated for TranxNode be freed before it was removed from the active list. So The TranxNode pointer in the active list would become a wild pointer and cause the crash. After this patch, We have a class called a TranxNodeAllocate which manages the memory for allocating and freeing TranxNode. When slave executes the log event, 'CURRENT_USER()' is expand to the user of slave SQL thread, but SQL thread's user name always NULL. This breaks the replication. This leads to crashes in ORDER BY <pk>,<pk>. Fixed by not treating the primary key as the secondary one and not depending on it being clustered with a primary key. 2. The cost calculation was trying to read the records per key when operating on ORDER BYs that order on all of the secondary key + some of the primary key. This leads to crashes because of out-of-bounds array access. Fixed by assuming we'll find 1 record per key in such cases.	16 years ago

However its content was not updated by bug@45677 fixes continuing to mention two tables whereas the fixes refined semantics of replication of auto_increment in stored routine. Fixed with updating the error message, renaming the error and an internal unsafe-condition constants. A documentation notice ====================== Inserting into an autoincrement column in a stored function or a trigger is unsafe for replication. Even with just one autoincrement column, if the routine is invoked more than once slave is not guaranteed to execute the statement graph same way as the master.
