Amaury Forgeot d'Arc	324ac65ceb	#5127 : Even on narrow unicode builds, the C functions that access the Unicode Database (Py_UNICODE_TOLOWER, Py_UNICODE_ISDECIMAL, and others) now accept and return characters from the full Unicode range (Py_UCS4). The differences from Python code are few: - unicodedata.numeric(), unicodedata.decimal() and unicodedata.digit() now return the correct value for large code points - repr() may consider more characters as printable.	16 years ago

Win 64's long is just 32bit but the sys.maxsize is now 2*63-1 on every 64bit platform. Also added docs for sys.maxsize.	18 years ago

It could be improved with special case code but we decided it was not useful enough. There is a cost of 12sizeof(PyObject ) bytes per list. For the normal case of file parsing this is not a problem because of the lists have a short lifetime. We have not come up with cases where this is a problem in real life. I chose 12 because human text averages about 11 words per line in books, one of my data sets averages 6.2 words with a final peak at 11 words per line, and I work with a tab delimited data set with 8 tabs per line (or 9 words per line). 12 encompasses all of these. Also changed the last rstrip code to append then reverse, rather than doing insert(0). Thomas Wouters	49fd7fa443	Merge p3yk branch with the trunk up to revision 45595. This breaks a fair number of tests, all because of the codecs/_multibytecodecs issue described here (it's not a Py3K issue, just something Py3K discovers): http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2006-April/064051.html Hye-Shik Chang promised to look for a fix, so no need to fix it here. The tests that are expected to break are: test_codecencodings_cn test_codecencodings_hk test_codecencodings_jp test_codecencodings_kr test_codecencodings_tw test_codecs test_multibytecodec This merge fixes an actual test failure (test_weakref) in this branch, though, so I believe merging is the right thing to do anyway.	20 years ago
Thomas Wouters	a977329b6f	Merge part of the trunk changes into the p3yk branch. This merges from 43030 (branch-creation time) up to 43067. 43068 and 43069 contain a little swapping action between re.py and sre.py, and this mightily confuses svn merge, so later changes are going in separately. This merge should break no additional tests. The last-merged revision is going in a 'last_merge' property on '.' (the branch directory.) Arbitrarily chosen, really; if there's a BCP for this, I couldn't find it, but we can easily change it afterwards ;)	20 years ago
