The patch fixes several issues with Py_NewInterpreter as well as the demo for multiple subinterpreters.
Most of the patch was written by MvL with help from Benjamin, Amaury and me. Graham Dumpleton has verified that this patch fixes an issue with mod_wsgi.
* crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc
* memory leaks found with valgrind
* compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads
* problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker
Update the valgrind suppressions file with new leaks that are small/one-time
leaks we don't care about (ie, they are too hard to fix).

At least some of these fixes should probably be backported to 2.5.
PyUnicode_AsStringAndSize -> _PyUnicode_AsStringAndSize to mark
them for interpreter internal use only.
We'll have to rework these APIs or create new ones for the
purpose of accessing the UTF-8 representation of Unicode objects
for 3.1.
The repr() of a string now contains printable Unicode characters unescaped.
The new ascii() builtin can be used to get a repr() with only ASCII characters in it.
PEP and patch were written by Atsuo Ishimoto.
with non-ascii characters.
This is the simple fix, which uses the FileSystemEncoding.
Replacing all the char* with unicode strings is a major rewrite,
and needs more thinking.
Use faster PyUnicode_FromEncodedObject() for bytes/bytearray.decode().
Add new PyCodec_KnownEncoding() API.
Add new PyUnicode_AsDecodedUnicode() and PyUnicode_AsEncodedUnicode() APIs.
Add missing PyUnicode_AsDecodedObject() to unicodeobject.h
Fix punicode codec to also work on memoryviews.

Remove the test file before writing it in case there is no write permission.
This might help fix some of the failures on Windows box(es). It doesn't hurt
either way and ensure the tests are a little more self contained (ie have
less assumptions).

instead of the expected NameError
This happens when sys.stdout is redirected to something that cannot flush().
the flush_io() function must be exception-neutral: don't raise, and don't clear exceptions.
Next step: exec() is not supposed to flush sys.stdout...
The new PyParser_*Ex() functions are based on Neal's suggestion and initial patch. The new __future__ feature makes all '' and r'' unicode strings. b'' and br'' stay (byte) strings.

The type system of Python 2.6 has subtle differences to 3.0's. I've removed the Py_TPFLAGS_BASETYPE flags from bytearray for now. bytearray can't be subclasses until the issues with bytearray subclasses are fixed.
